"having made peace through the blood of His cross, it pleased the Father to reconcile all things to Himself through Jesus... And you, who were once alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, He has now reconciled in His body through death, to present you holy and blameless, and innocent in His sight, if indeed you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel" -Colossians 1:19-23

The folly of most religions, is the attempt to become right in God's eyes by doing religious acts, but our trying to become better people is like sweeping a dirt floor. We are corrupted through and through. Therefore, the old must be done away with and we must be given a new heart. This is the beauty of Christianity! For in Jesus' death, we were judged and condemned (the old done away with), but through His resurrection we are made new; He awakens our spirit so He can dwell within us.
Jesus tried to wash Peter's feet, but Peter resisted, Jesus then said he could have no part with him if he did not allow him to do so, so Peter said "wash all of me!" but Jesus said "no, you are clean, but since you walk in world, your feet need to be washed". I think that this symbolizes how through Christ we are new and pure, but while in this world our surface will get dirty, we'll mess up every now and then. But because we're pure, we can be cleansed.

Jesus who had part in creating the universe, humbles himself and comes to earth, dies and rises again, that we (symbolized by the drunk wife beater in the bottom left corner), could repent and be made alive, and become spiritually rich now and have an abundance in heaven
